Thanks for the answer. Btw. did you know by any chance that where did we talking about this mod? because I'm entered irc://irc.inn.at.euirc.net/NG+ but saw no one there.
did you join a room? Cause when i clicked on the irc://irc.inn.at.euirc.net/NG+ link it sent me straight into a room so im not entirely sure. If you need to join a room just click on the join room button.
Of course I join. But I saw no one there. Is it only me or the room have no one to begin with? because I saw so many people online when I enter another room.
Hey :D I just felt like I need to tell you that I keep my fingers crossed for the project and it's developers. I hope it get's released this year or early in 2014... Greetings, good luck and sorry for my bad english (not my native language)
If you're wondering why nothing's out yet, it's because I've been having a lot of problems fighting with the nscript, getting all sorts of very weird bugs.
One of them is particularly severe. If the nscript has too many lines (I think the number's around 375000), then the game will simply refuse to start. The actual plot and dialogue for the main game only take up about 10% of the script. Almost all of it is bloated by fights and encyclopedia entries, which are a pain to code in. I'm working on some kind of workaround.
Another bug is actually in part 1 as well, where certain flags won't reset properly if you reload a save, which can cause weird things to happen (it's most obvious with Queen Harpy's scenes). There's other bugs too, and most of them don't seem to make any sense at all.
So it might still be awhile. You'd think it would get easier as I went along, but clearly nscript has all the stability of a bipolar suicidal 14-year old girl, so sadly, that is not the case.
I'm finishing up my final year in college, so I can understand if you have to take a lot of time to finish a product. Whether you need to split parts or if you can find a way to use only one nscript, take as much time as you need. I'd like to see the next product working correctly (even if there's a few bugs, so long as they're minor).
Part 1 and Part 2 I can probably squeeze onto one script. No way can all of it fit if that bug is real. But the weird thing is, I can't seem to replicate it now. It might be too much of something else that's causing it. Methods, maybe.
If I can't get it to work, we'll probably have to resort to save importing. I really don't want to do that, because it's a colossal pain in the ass to do that and it could cause a whole mess of other problems with it.
I just wondered, would it be possible to make multiple nscript files and let alma elma pop up at the end of every script, telling you to change it to the next one? (Like changing discs in L.A. Noire)
Sorry for my bad english and the lack of coding knowledge... Sadly, I'm neither native english-speaker nor a coder, so please ignore what I said if it's just bullshit.
Possible, yes. The same way you import saves in the main game, it could almost definitely be done for this too. But the difference is that NG+ is, generally far less linear than the main game. This can cause problems if the whole game is divided up.
Say there's a certain scene that you can only unlock after meeting certain requirements. You can meet these requirements at any point from part 2 to the end and unlock the scene. If the nscript is divided up, that scene either has to be put in every single nscript file, adding unnecessary space. Or it gets cut, only put in one nscript, and you can only get it at that certain part of the game.
Two good examples of games with this problem off the top of my head are Final Fantasy VIII and Mass Effect 2. Final Fantasy VIII had almost every town from discs 1-3 blocked off on its last disc because there wasn't enough space on it to fit them in with all the disc 4 stuff. If you still had sidequests or other things you wanted to do in the towns? Too bad, you can't go back to Disc 3.
And Mass Effect 2 (I'm pretty sure this is right) was originally going to have the loyalty missions doable in any order. But then the 360 version had to go on two discs, and they had to be divided up between the discs. This also blocks off a lot of extra dialogue between party members on some of the missions, because it's simply impossible to have them at that point.
Basically, dividing it into multiple nscript files would cause a whole mess of problems no matter how it's done, and the mod would probably be worse off for it in the end. I would like to avoid that if at all possible.
so my ng+ ends when im about to leave the port. Is this the stopping point for everyone or is it just me? Cause i hear people talking about getting past Alma Elma so idk.
I would be concerned if it went past Alma Elma, since that part's not even finished yet.
Speaking of unfinished crap getting released, the beta will be released on December 2nd. It was going to be November 30th, but I won't have internet then. It won't have much. Just the spirit fights and maybe a couple other fights. The fights are what I really need tested though, because that's where most of the problems always are.
After that, I'm gonna try to finish the first half of part 2 (because the nscripts are gonna have to be switched) by the end of the year. Problem is, I won't have internet at Christmastime all the way through the first half of January. So we'll say January 15th right now, give or take maybe a week. Although I keep a release date about as well as 3D Realms, so that might change.
If the sripts need to be switched, can you put the reputation-unlockable scenes in every single nscript (or add some kind of sensemaking substitution if you can't do this)?
The fights have the most bugs? I would think it would be the actual story. What do you test in fights anyway? Like the sp meter or the images for the special moves?
The fights have the most bugs because of the way the engine works. Trying to put RPG gameplay on a VN engine probably wasn't the smartest choice. Even using the other fights as a template, a lot of the work still has to be done manually, especially since the NG+ gameplay has a lot of differences from the main game. It's still VERY easy to get problems with crashing, AI, sound effects, and all sorts of other wonderful things.
Most of the part 1 bugs that got through were with the fights, too.
So is testing the fights like just playing the fight and reporting bugs? Or is it more complicated like fixing the script yourself? Cause im not completely sure what beta testers actually do?
Beta testing is pretty much just playing through what's there and reporting any bugs you find. Don't bother editing the script yourself.
I thought that engine was just a way to make your own scenarios, but it's completely different. I can look into it, but I doubt it'll be used for this mod.
On a side note, thanks to Google, I came dangerously close to replying to this under my actual full name, and that would have REALLY pissed me off. Why does every fucking thing have to connect to each other holy fucking shit. Keeping your life and your fetish hentai game development shenanigans separate should not be difficult.
That comment :D couldn't agree more with you sir google is going overboard.
Wanted to put here that at first I was skeptic about your fan made NG+ but I decided to try it out since some of the short side stories were cool in the original ( also the motivational poster in a previous update by ThatRussian was really convincing ) and that shit is really epic! I have a request to build a harem route (always liked dem harem routes even if they seem shallow to some people) and please don't rush to end the adventure take as much time as you need and stretch it as much as you can while keeping the epicness. You seem to have played mass effect so I hope you won't repeat their mistake (limitless possibilities wasted).
Merry Christmas and Happy new year guys! I hope to see more of Luka next year. The mod is amazing and so are you. Looking forward to any updates (and update comics).
Just wanted to say you guys rock. Had to make a brand new account for the same reasons you mention, Ecstasy. Fuck this linked stuff.
Looking forward to the upcoming release and happy to beta test the fights/report/etc. Don't know if you take suggestions here but it'd be cool if getting the 3 Hero Medals could unlock Lazarus as a party member; it'd piss the monsters off but damn it if part 3 didn't make me more sympathetic to the guy than before.
well the mod looks good so far even despite the problems you might have. so I hope that you will be able to complete it soon,
ReplyDeleteI agree the artwork looks great. If i could draw i would so be an artist for u guys for free
